OK, so Robyn(daughter #1) having surgery in Italy while away on a dig was worrisome, but we dealt.
Then Dayle(daughter#2) having to pay the gov't more taxes as Eva(granddaughter)'s dad went back on his promise to equalize the monitary situation was maddening---OK.
Then Dayle's roommate didn't tell her that the company that just bought the building that they're trying to move out of posted an eviction notice (major fraud happening here) last week. When we went to get the rest of her stuff last Friday we find that all Eva's clothes and toys have been taken---they haven't been found yet---probably not likely---so now sleepless night #1.
Now, Dayle was almost abducted by three men in a white car while going to the corner store in broad daylight in the afternoon. She's OK but arrrgh! Many more sleepless nights.
ENOUGH! ENOUGH!ENOUGH!

Well, he had chest pains on Monday at work, so the MIR sent him to Dartmouth General. Fortunately, his heart specialist was on duty, so things have been moving along quickly. The tests say angina, so they are doing a `dye test' tomorrow, and if there is a blockage, they will insert a stint. If this is the case he will be out on Friday. If this isn't the problem, he will be stuck in the hospital until they figure out what is going on.
What can I say, the man has never been boring.

Nyx has been found!
Now you must understand that neither James nor I are unintelligent people and we have been living with cats for over 20 years. However, I thought that when Robyn affectionately refers to Nyx as stupid, she was using that term of endearment in the same manner as does James when Simba or Puddin'has done something particularly bone-headed. I didn't realize she was being factual.
This morning as we are leaving for work I hear a strange noise in the vicinity of my lower cupboard--the kind of strange noise a living creature makes. Scratching! Mice! Grrr! I whip open one cupboard---nothing.I whip open the lazy-susan door---and out flows one small grey cat. Nyx. She had crept in there unseen when I was putting away the groceries and has stayed there quietly (tho' now that we think of it maybe all the meowing wasn't the other cats in the basement)for two days.
The punch line is that I had looked in that cupboard but small grey cats blend in with the woodwork apparently. sigh
To the powers that be---I have seen the lessons and learned---my thanks:
1. All that matters is life and health---everything else constitutes mundane matters that can be fixed one way or another. Keep your priorities straight.
2. You now live again in the country. You have done this before. It requires a different mind-set. Flip the switch now!
3. When checking cupboards for small grey cats lie on the floor on your stomach and use a high-beam flashlight.

I am so tired of having to pay for everything in bitter coin.
We have managed to lose Robyn's cat.
On Saturday she managed to slip out unseen, despite our stringent precations, when we were bringing in the groceries. She must have bolted out the door at the last second, and we didn't notice.
It was an hour later when we realized she was gone; by that time it was dark and snowing heavily. We went out and searched at intervals all evening, yelling her name, and again the next day, but to no avail. She has disappeared as if she never was here at all.
We keep looking, even though there has been no sign of her at all---knowing myself, I always shall.
We have notified the neighbours, but it is a long shot at best.
She is a young, small, gentle cat, very pretty but rather feather-headed, who has never been cold or hungry or, indeed, outside before. She might have been lucky enough to find shelter, but probably not.
I know she is probably not coming back, for the woods are vast and dark and filled with creatures she would not have the sense to avoid, and she is such a little cat.She gambled with life, as do we all, and has possibly lost, as, indeed, we all do in the end.
Robyn will be heart-broken, and I will always be haunted by the shade of a sweet little cat that I could not protect from herself.
